اليوم 13 من الشهر المبارك بابة, أحسن الله استقباله، وأعاده علينا وعليكم، ونحن في هدوء واطمئنان، مغفوري الخطايا والآثام، من قِبَل مراحم الرب، يا آبائي وأخوتي.

13- اليوم الثالث عشر - شهر بابه

تذكار نياحة القديس زكريا الراهب بن قاريوس .

كان أبوه يدعى قاريوس وكان متزوجًا ، غير أنه اشتاق إلى الرهبنة وكاشف زوجته بما في فكره فوافقته على ذلك . وكان له ابن وبنت فتركهما عند أمهما وقصد برية شيهيت وترهب عند شيخ قديس هناك .

ثم بعد قليل حدث غلاء شديد في البلاد ، فأخذت المرأة ولديها وذهبت إلى البرية حيث كان أبوهما قاريوس ، وشكت له ما تقاسيه من الغلاء وسلمته ولديه .

أما هو فقال لها: "إن الله قد قسم بيننا فخذي أنت البنت واتركي لي الولد" . فأخذت البنت وانصرفت وأخذ هو الصبي وأتى به إلى الشيوخ ، فصلوا عليه وتنبأوا عنه أنه سيكون راهبًا كاملاً.

تربى زكريا في البرية تربية صالحة ، وتقدم في كل فضيلة . ولحسن طلعته وجمال صورته صار تذمر في الإسقيط بسببه ، إذ قالوا: "كيف يكون صبي مثل هذا في البرية بين الرهبان؟" فلما سمع القديس زكريا بهذا ذهب إلى بحيرة النطرون ومن غير أن يُعلم أحدًا ، وخلع ثيابه ونزل في البركة وانغمس فيها عدة ساعات فتحول لون جسمه إلى السواد وصار كالمجذوم ، ثم صعد من الماء ولبس ثيابه وأتى إلى أبيه ، فلم يعرفه إلا بعد أن تفرس فيه جيدًا ، ولما سأله عن الذي غير منظره أعلمه بما عمل .

لما كان يوم الأحد مضى مع أبيه إلى الكنيسة ليتناول الأسرار المقدسة ، فكشف الله للقديس إيسيذورس قس الإسقيط ما صنعه القديس زكريا ، فتعجب وقال للرهبان: "إن زكريا تقدم في الأحد الماضي كإنسانٍ ، أما الآن فقد صار ملاكًا" .

حاز هذا القديس جميع الفضائل وخصوصًا التواضع ، فكان فيه كاملاًحتى أن أباه قال عنه: "إنني تحملت تعبًا كثيرًا في الجهاد ولكنني لم أصل إلى رتبة ابني زكريا" .

أقام هذا القديس مجاهدًا وناسكًا خمسًا وأربعين سنة ، ودخل إلى البرية وهو ابن سبع سنين ، فكانت أيام حياته اثنتين وخمسين سنة ، ثم تنيح بسلام . صلواته تكون معنا ولربنا المجد دائمًا إبديا آمين .

The Departure of Saint Zacharias, the Monk

On this day, St . Zacharias the monk, departed . His father's name was Karyos . He was married, buthe longed for the monastic life . He told his wife about what was on his mind and she agreed to it .Karyos had a son, called Zacharias and a daughter . He left them with their mother and went to thedesert of Scete and became a monk at the hands of a holy old man .Shortly after, there was a great famine in the country and the wife took the two children and cameto the desert where their father Karyos was . She complained to him about the tribulation whichhad come upon her through the famine and handed him the children . But Karyos told her, "Godhas divided the two children between us . You take the girl and leave the boy with me ." She tookher daughter and departed . Karyos took his son Zacharias and brought him to the elders whoprayed over him and they prophesied that he would become a perfect monk .Zacharias was brought up well in the desert, and advanced in every virtue . Because he wasexceedingly handsome and his fair look, there were many murmurs in the desert because of himand they said, "How is it, a boy like that dwells in the desert among the monks?" When St .Zacharias heard that, he went to lake El-Natroun (which was very salty) without telling anyone .He took off his apparel, plunged his body into the lake, and remained in it for many hours . Thecolor of his body became black and he looked like a leper . Then he went forth from the water, puton his apparel and came to his father who did not recognize him until he had stared at him closely .When he asked him about what had changed his appearance, he told him what he had done .When it was Sunday, he went with his father to the church to partake of the Holy Mysteries . TheLord revealed to St . Isidore, the priest of Scete, what St . Zacharias had done . He marvelled andsaid to the monks, "Zacharias received the offering last Sunday as a man, but now he has becomean angel ."This saint possessed many virtues, especially the virtue of humility in which he had reached such adegree of perfection that his father said about him, "I have labored greatly in the fight, but I havenever attained the extent of my son Zacharias ."St . Zacharias lived a strenuous life and strove exceedingly hard for 45 years . When he came to thedesert, he was seven years old and all the days of his life numbered 52 years, then he departed inpeace .His prayers be with us and Glory be to our God, forever . Amen
